About Us
Dublin's Heating Engineers Who Do Things Right
We're a small, straight-talking team of RGI registered engineers based in Dublin 12. No hard sell, no shortcuts, just honest work done properly.
Who We Are
Our Story
Liffey Heating was founded in 2014 by Declan Murphy, a gas engineer with over 22 years in the trade. Declan started out as an apprentice at 18, spent 12 years working for one of Dublin's larger heating contractors, and then decided to go out on his own.
The reason was simple: he wanted to do the job properly, without the corners being cut that he'd seen too often elsewhere.
Today, the team is made up of Declan and three experienced engineers, all individually RGI registered. RGI registration is a legal requirement for all gas work in Ireland, so when you hire us, you know the person turning up at your door is fully qualified and certified to do the work.
We run four vans across Dublin and the Greater Dublin Area, covering everything from boiler installations and servicing to power flushing and central heating installations.
The People Behind the Work
Meet the Team
Declan Murphy
Owner & Managing Director
Declan founded Liffey Heating in 2014 after 12 years working for a large Dublin contractor, bringing over 22 years of hands-on experience in gas heating and plumbing. He started as an apprentice at 18 and built Liffey Heating on a simple principle: do the job properly and be honest with customers about what is and isn't needed. That approach has earned the business a reputation built almost entirely on referrals and repeat customers.
Simon Murphy
Senior Gas Engineer
Simon has been with Liffey Plumbing and Heating for seven years and leads all gas boiler installations and service calls. RGI-registered with a specialism in Worcester Bosch and Viessmann systems, he's the engineer customers ask for by name when a boiler's been playing up for weeks. He takes a diagnostic-first approach, test before you replace, which has saved plenty of homeowners from unnecessary full swaps. Outside of work he restores old motorbikes in a shed in Celbridge.
Matt Byrne
Heating Engineer & Operations Lead
Matt joined the team in 2016 after completing his apprenticeship with SOLAS and quickly became the go-to engineer for heat pump commissioning and smart heating controls. He runs the scheduling side of the business, which means he's the voice most customers hear first, straight answers, honest timelines, no jargon. He's a qualified SEAI heat pump installer and sits on a local trades mentorship panel.
